Born and raised in NE Philly (Mayfair) and now residing on the Gulf coast of Florida. Want to head home for my 50th in January with either my daughter or best friend.
I want a real birthday cake from an actual bakery (Bucks now Geigers on Frankford Ave was our neighborhood place), a hoagie, a cheesesteak, a Tastykake Pie, a butter cake and sticky buns to bring home!
I tried calling bakeries to ship a cake (not even frosted...I%26#39;ll do that if they ship it in a container) but the owner of Geigers won%26#39;t consider it so I%26#39;ll fly home and indulge in a food feast!
Any ideas where to stay in downtown area to take the daughter/friend to site see while having my cake from any bakery and eating it too????
50th Birthday Weekend Trip
If you give me your dates of stay in January and budget for a hotel, I%26#39;ll help you find a place. There are a lot of nice hotels in Center City, both in the Historic District and Rittenhouse Square area. I can help recommend if I know a price range and when you are coming exactly.
Not totally familiar with bakeries in the city...I can recommend some on the outskirts (love both the Night Kitchen and Bredenbecks in Chestnut Hill) - also like Termini Brothers, but more for cannolis, to be honest....

There%26#39;s also a bakery in Old City - Petit 4, I think it is called? Anyone have any personal experience there?
Also, I recall Lynn on this board loves Isgro%26#39;s.

I%26#39;m going to be on a tight budget to be honest...I don%26#39;t want/need a W type of hotel but I absolutely don%26#39;t want a Super * level either. Something mid range in walking distance to the typical historic stuff would be great.
Will take a cab up to Mayfair if necessary!
Thanks so much for any help...will be arriving on Jan 4 and departing Jan 6
In town, The Swiss Pastry Shop has good birthday cakes.
The Hampton Inn at the Conv Center is showing $99 per night plus taxes on Hotels.com for those dates. Not a bad bet.
I saw the Hyatt Regency for $169/night, the HIlton Garden for $136, the Sheraton Society Hill for $159, the Doubletree for $148 and the Hampton Inn that Loonbeam mentioned for $99/night, all on Expedia. The Hampton Inn gets good reviews, good location and includes breakfast - that may be a hard deal to beat, unless you are willing to try your luck on Priceline. Let%26#39;s us know if you need additional information - good luck!
