Philadelphia in one day.

A few of my friends are coming from out of town and we are taking a trip to Philadelphia the following Sunday. I understand Reading Market is closed on sundays which is a shame. But what else can you recommend? Also which place is the best to get cheese steak?

Thanks in advance!

Philadelphia in one day.

There are numerous opinions on who has the best cheesesteak. The most famous places are Pat%26#39;s and Geno%26#39;s, located across from each other around 9th and Passyunk (PASS-e-yunk) in South Philly. Previously I have said that this would be a difficult location for visitors to get to using transportation, but I decided to do a little research and it actually isn%26#39;t as inconvenient as I thought.

From 8th St, catch either the 47 or 47m bus down to Federal St. Walk one block west to 9th St then south on 9th. You will see Geno%26#39;s first then Pat%26#39;s a little further down. It%26#39;s about a 15 minute ride to Federal and a 10 minute walk over and down 9th St. Perhaps you can buy a couple steaks from Geno%26#39;s, a couple from Pat%26#39;s, and taste test all of them! If you%26#39;re driving then it should be an easier trip (notwithstanding the downtown parking fees). Check out www.septa.org for transit info or www.patssteaks.com and www.genossteaks.com for driving directions.

If you%26#39;re looking for a more convenient downtown location, there are several to choose from: Campo%26#39;s (Old City), Tony Luke Jr%26#39;s (Rittenhouse Square), and Jim%26#39;s (South Street) come to mind immediately.

As far as how to spend the rest of your Sunday, there%26#39;s lots to do! Let us know your interests and we can point you in the right direction.

If you are more interested in a quality cheesesteak than in historic cheesesteak places then definitely skip Pat%26#39;s and Geno%26#39;s. Go with the other places Tony recommended. Personally, I give Campo%26#39;s the top grade.

Good News! Reading Terminal Market is now OPEN on Sundays! The PA Dutch Stands won%26#39;t be open, but you should still be able to sample the Philly flavor.
