Going to Philly area 10/12, need advice on suburbs hotels

Hi everyone,

We are moving to the Philadelphia area and are going there 10/12 for about a week to check out the suburbs in order to find a rental apartment to live in. We%26#39;re hoping to find a place in the suburbs where we can live AND work (meaning: not commute into Philadelphia).

So, we%26#39;d like to stay in a hotel outside of Philadelphia that will afford us the opportunity to look around at the different towns.

We%26#39;d like an hotel with a fridge, microwave, fitness center, high-speed internet that will cost under $125, if possible. We don%26#39;t need to be right near the city. We don%26#39;t know the area at all and don%26#39;t know which hotels are safe and will give us a good ';home base.';

Any suggestions on hotels and even on suburbs that have a good commercial (= job) base would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Depends on your background, but Route 202 corridor - King of Prussia on out, Wayne, Berwyn, Malvern, is a busy hi-tech, job areas. Route 309 around Ft Washington, has a large industrial park, Horsham as well, just off Pa Tpk at Rt 611. All of these place are well outside CC Phila, about a 45 minute to 1 hr train commute.

Look at your map for reference. The PA tpk has a number of exits around/outside of Phila that you can use to check out the area. Plus go on-line for job prospects/interest. Start with something like www.Philly.com for job search. Negotiate rates if you are staying longer at any hotel, ask if they can give you a better rate, discounts ??. Good luck with appt rentals.

I%26#39;d check out the new Hilton Garden Inn in Fort Washington. New hotel, nice suburban area, right off the PA turnpike, which will give you access to a variety of areas. The hotel has a fridge, microwave, fitness center/indoor pool/hot tub and high speed internet. It is coming up at $139/night on Hilton%26#39;s website for the next week, but I think it may well be worth the extra dollars to stay somewhere nice that is well-located with all the amenities you desire. If you want breakfast included with the rate of your hotel, it is an extra $12 a night ($151/night.) MIght be worth the convenience if there are two of you, $6/pp is very inexpensive for a full breakfast buffett. Parking is free, FYI. Check out the reviews on Tripadvisor, they seem to be very favorable.

I%26#39;m not sure what kind of jobs you are seeking, that can make a difference in terms of where we suggest in terms of location.

There are other places, but I think finding a hotel with a fridge, microwave, internet and fitness center that has availability for your price range could be hard to find.

Let us know if you have additional questions.

Good luck!

Forty five minute to an hour north of Philly is the Homewood Suites of Lansdale. It is in proximity to the R5 train line. Merck Company is close by. It may come in at a rate just over your line, but I think you would enjoy the stay in this facility!

Re: jobs...

My background is bookkeeping (several different industries including law, manufacturing, biotech, transportation, optical). My husband is thinking about forklift driving (or local CDL driving if he can find a local, home-at-night job) until he gets his certification in Personal Training.

Does that help?

I would also try the Malvern/ Great Valley/ Frazer area. Very large corporate park that houses lots of major corporations. There are also lots of hotels in the area.

You might also want to look around Concordville, which is southwest of the city and not far from Wilmington Delaware. There is a great amount of ongoing commercial development around the intersection of Route 202 and Route 1.
