Restaurants near Renaissance Hotel

I%26#39;m having a devil of a time finding some restaurant options that would be within walking distance of the Renaissance Hotel (think there may be more than one ~ this one is at 107 6th Avenue).

We%26#39;d like something that%26#39;s moderately priced (or would even be happy with some extraordinary pizza....just not a Pizza Hut kind of pizza!).

Also, how far from hotel are the much-talked about restaurants on Carson Street? Walking distance? Short cab ride? Expensive cab ride?

Thanks so very much. I know I can trust T.A.%26#39;s to give me honest advice.

What do you like? Lemon Grass Cafe, Christos, Giovanni%26#39;s, and Morton%26#39;s are all close.

Carson St. is not walking distance, but you can catch a cab to Station Square and check out the different eateries there. Or, if you like, grab the Incline up to Mt. Washington and check out the very fine, upscale dining there.

Palomino has reliably decent food, and they used to have coupon deals if you sign up on their web site.

Also, cross the 6th Street Bridge right outside your hotel to get to Atria%26#39;s at PNC Park - it %26#39;s in the TGI Friday%26#39;s vein but is locally owned.

There are actually quite a few good restaurants within a block of the Renaissance.

On Sixth Street:

- Lemongrass Cafe has good Thai food, with good lunch specials.

- Palazzo - Italian food, a bit pricey for dinner http://www.palazzopgh.com/lpasta.htm

- Cafe Milano - has a variety of delicious pizzas, I%26#39;ve never tried anything else on the menu though

- Six Penn Kitchen - has a variety of more unique/gourmet foods, the menu changes monthly. Everything I%26#39;ve had here has been quite good. http://www.sixpennkitchen.com/menu.aspx

- There are also two Greek restaurants on Sixth, Christos and one whose name is escaping me, both of which are decent.

Further downtown but still within walking distance:

- August Henry%26#39;s - upscale bar

- Sonoma Grille - California-style restaurant featuring wine and food

Good luck, and enjoy your visit.

Wow! You people from Pittsburgh are great. Thanks for the very prompt and numerous suggestions. I%26#39;m really looking forward to this trip. (And, if you ever need any suggestions on Philadelphia ~ or Philly as they would have you believe the natives call it ~ I%26#39;d be happy to help.)

Beth is right on the money with her list. Cafe Milano does indeed have great pizza, Lemongrass is very fine Vietnamese, and Christos is yummy, too.

Someone else mentioned Palomino--excellent choice.

Also very close to the Renaissance is Olive or Twist, a favorite of mine. http://www.olive-twist.com/

A block away, at the corner of Ft Duquesne and Stanwix, is Max %26amp; Erma%26#39;s - casual, burgers, pub food. A block the other direction, on 7th Street, is Bossa Nova, great lounge with small plates, interesting cocktails, comfy furniture. http://www.bossanovapgh.com/

Right in The Renaissance is Opus, upscale, lovely and very good, with the accompanying price tag, but I would also recommend appetizers at the Bridge bar, also in the lobby of the Renaissance.

Do enjoy your visit. The Ren is a great hotel, and I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll like it.
