We are planning a trip through PA, including Longwood Gardens, the National Christmas Museum, and the Poconos. We are all set for lodging at Longwood and the Poconos, but are unsure about where to stay near the Museum. I have found The Fulton Steamboat Inn and the After 8 B %26amp; B - does anyone have any opinions on these 2 places, or any other suggestions on someplace good? We care most about a clean room, quiet, not necessarily a B %26amp; B (prefer NOT a B %26amp; B). Also, need the best ';real food'; restaurant, for a good meal - ? Good %26amp; Plenty? We have eaten at the old hotel in Shartelsville in the past and have really enjoyed that.
We appreciate any and all suggestions and recommendations! We are traveling during the 2nd week of December, from CT.
';Christmas'; Themed Vacation
Many posters on this website like the Best Western Revere Inn which isn%26#39;t far from the museum. I haven%26#39;t stayed there, but it gets great reviews here. I have stayed at Homestead Lodging and EastBrook Inn, both of which are located on Rt. 897 not far from Good %26amp; Plenty. Homestead is a family owned bed and breakfast, but imo, it%26#39;s more like a motel. It%26#39;s family owned and operated with only about 5 units, and the owners live right on sight. EastBook is a very basic no frills motel, but it%26#39;s clean and reasonably priced. Both are close to all major attractions. Willow Valley Resort is a very nice place to stay, though pretty expensive. They have an indoor water park, so it%26#39;s worth if it kids are coming along.
As for real food, I have also read Dienner%26#39;s is good and also close to the museum. I haven%26#39;t eaten there either, but it does get raves on this site. I have eaten at Bird In Hand and Willow Valley and have enjoyed them very much. They are probably more ';touristy'; though.
Sight %26amp; Sound Theatre on Rt. 897 right outside Strasburg has a Christmas show which everyone says is well worth seeing. You might want to check this out to go along with you theme. I think the American Music Theater also has a Christmas show and is right on Rt. 30 in Lancaster.
Have a nice trip!! You will long Longwood Gardens!! Gorgeous holiday displays!!
';Christmas'; Themed Vacation
Hi
We went to the National Christmas Center in August and really loved it. It is beautiful and colorful and worth the trip. Be sure to have your camera ready. Also if you have time I would visit one of the Amish farm tours.
As for meals - We stayed at a motel called the Dutch Treat Motel and across the street was the Sight and Sound theater and Hershey Farm and Lodge. We walked over to the Hershey Farm and ate twice at the restaurant. For lunch and dinner you can either get the buffet or order off the menu. The food was real good. At breakfast they have a huge buffet and it was reasonable and good. Hershey Farm also has a lot of walking trails and farm animals scattered about. We had a nice time walking the grounds and their gift shop. There is also a hotel on the grounds. We didn鈥檛 stay there so I can鈥檛 say how they look or the price.
Have a great trip!
I have stayed at willow valley during christmas vacation and they have the indoor waterpark and two other pools, plus activities for kids every hour and an indoor carnival. It is however a bit more expensive then other places around $200 a night but considering all of the activities and things you are getting thats a great price. The carnival is free and so are the prizes, cotton candy, popcorn, pictures, and a bunch of extras. We went the past 3 years but decided not too this year as Im on a budget. Its a great treat though if you have kids. We usually stay in the Atrium Building which is newly renovated.
We have also stayed at Fulton Steamboat and my kids loved it also. Much much cheaper in price but of course not as much to do as the above. We stayed in the twin bunk bed room and the kids loved it. It really makes you feel like you are on a cruise ship. Its not the Ritz but for the price %26amp; location its great. We paid $89 per night there. It is also next to two convenience stores which is great to get goodies and right across the street from the Outlets and places to eat. You can walk but it would be easier to drive.
I forgot to mention the Dutch Treat Motel in my above post. It is across from the Sight and Sound Theater. Very small no frills motel but very clean and quiet. they do have family suite if you need something a bit bigger. Like I said above the Hershey Farm is across the street and so is the Sight and Sound theater. It is about a 15 drive to get to the National Christmas Center from there. I did see a lot of hotels and motels closer to it if you wanted to be near it.
If you can get rooms at the revere inn, take them, Main building. The annex is just a motel, but the main building will put you in the best place in the area.
